Super Bowl on the line, Chiefs’ Jones will play vs. Titans in AFC Championship Game
The Kansas City Chiefs’ defensive line is at full strength.
The Kansas City Chiefs declared star defensive tackle Chris Jones, who entered the weekend as questionable with a calf injury, active ahead of Sunday’s game for the AFC championship against the Tennessee Titans at Arrowhead Stadium.
The winner advances to the Feb. 2 Super Bowl LIV in Miami.
Jones originally suffered the injury days before the AFC Divisional Round. He attempted to go through a pregame warm-up but couldn’t push off his right calf and did not play in the Chiefs’ 51-31 win over the Houston Texans last weekend in KC.
He did not practice Wednesday and Thursday in preparation for the game against the Titans, but he was able to put in a limited practice on Friday.
While Jones is active, it wouldn’t be surprising if the Chiefs utilized the Pro Bowler in a rotational role with Derrick Nnadi, Mike Pennel, Xavier Williams and rookie Khalen Saunders to keep Jones and the interior of the defensive line fresh against Titans running back Derrick Henry.
The Chiefs listed running back LeSean McCoy, quarterback Matt Moore, cornerback Morris Claiborne, linebacker Darron Lee, offensive lineman Jackson Barton, offensive lineman Andrew Wylie and offensive lineman Ryan Hunter as inactive.
With Wylie down again, Stefen Wisniewski will draw the start at left guard for a third straight game.
