Chiefs’ Andrew Wylie questionable vs. Chargers; cornerback Morris Claiborne ruled out
The Kansas City Chiefs’ final injury report of the regular season is probably as good as it could get with the playoffs just around the corner.
The Chiefs had only one starter listed on Friday’s report, with left guard Andrew Wylie (ankle) designated as questionable for Sunday’s game against the Los Angeles Chargers at Arrowhead Stadium.
Wylie, who missed Week 16, put in a limited practice this past week, prompting coach Andy Reid to take a wait-and-see approach on the offensive lineman’s availability for Sunday.
“We’ll just see,” Reid said after Friday’s practice. “We’ll see how he did today and we’ll go from there.”
If Wylie can’t play, Stefen Wisniewski is in line to draw a second straight start at left guard.
Meanwhile, the Chiefs list backup offensive lineman Cam Erving (illness) and backup defensive tackle Xavier Williams (ankle) as questionable.
Williams, who was activated from injured reserve Wednesday, practiced fully the entire week. But he will need to wait until Sunday to see if the coaching staff determines he’s ready to return to action for the first time since Week 5.
“I haven’t made that decision,” Reid said.
The Chiefs enter their regular-season finale with depth along the interior defensive line thanks to the health of Chris Jones, Derrick Nnadi, Mike Pennel and rookie Khalen Saunders. Defensive end Tanoh Kpassagnon can also shift from outside to inside as necessary.
Backup cornerback Morris Claiborne has been ruled out Sunday, marking the fourth straight game the defensive back will miss since he suffered a shoulder injury against the Oakland Raiders in Week 13. Claiborne put in limited practices Wednesday and Thursday before missing Friday’s workout for non-injury reasons.
“He was excused,” Reid said of Claiborne.
Center Austin Reiter (wrist), cornerback Bashaud Breeland (shoulder), cornerback Rashad Fenton (hamstring) and kicker Harrison Butker (glute) practiced fully Friday for a third straight day. None carry a game designation.
