Chiefs-Broncos prediction: KC looks to keep trending in this very streaky series
The Chiefs wrap up this season’s series with the Denver Broncos Sunday in a noon kickoff at Arrowhead Stadium. The Chiefs will be bidding to make it four straight years of sweeps over Denver and run their winning streak over the Broncos to nine in a row.
Before the Chiefs’ current run of dominance, the Broncos owned a seven-game winning streak in the KC-Denver series.
Kickoff: noon, Arrowhead Stadium
TV/Radio: CBS (Ch. 5), KCFK (101.1 FM)
Line: Chiefs by 9 1/2
Blair Kerkhoff’s prediction: Chiefs 30-16
The Chiefs clinched the AFC West with a victory at New England last weekend and look to avoid the same pitfall that torpedoed the Houston Texans. A week earlier, Houston defeated the Patriots then fell flat in an upset loss to the Broncos. Chiefs coach Andy Reid says it’s full-speed ahead for his team, even with the first goal of another division title already in the bag. Drew Lock has given Denver a spark, and the former Mizzou and Lee’s Summit High standout has won his first two NFL starts. The last time these teams met, the Chiefs recorded nine sacks in a 30-6 victory. Joe Flacco was the Denver quarterback that night. Also in that game, Patrick Mahomes dislocated his kneecap and missed the next two games. In their eight-game winning streak in the series, the Chiefs haven’t scored fewer than 27 points. Look for that trend to continue in a Kansas City victory Sunday.
