Damien Williams misses second day of practice; Tyreek Hill removed from injury report

The Kansas City Chiefs were down four players for Thursday’s practice ahead of Week 14’s game against the New England Patriots.

Defensive end Frank Clark (shoulder, illness), cornerback Morris Claiborne (shoulder), running back Damien Williams (rib) and cornerback Rashad Fenton (hamstring) did not practice for a second straight day.

The game-day status for Williams, who suffered his injury in Week 11 and did not play in Week 13, is very much in the air, leaving the Chiefs’ backfield in flux. Earlier Thursday, they placed Darrel Williams (hamstring) on injured reserve.

The Chiefs bolstered the depth in their backfield earlier in the week by bringing back Spencer Ware, who said Thursday he hopes to play Sunday.

Clark’s illness popped up Thursday, and he missed Wednesday’s on-field work with the shoulder injury he suffered in Week 13.

With Claiborne and Fenton currently sidelined, the Chiefs elevated defensive back Alex Brown from their practice squad to the active 53-player roster and re-signed receiver Gehrig Dieter to the practice squad.

Chiefs defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo indicated Thursday that Brown provides flexibility as an outside cornerback or at the nickel cornerback position against a slot wide receiver.

“Probably start off with outside,” Spagnuolo said. “He could slide in, but the way we’re structured right now I’m thinking more outside.”

Meanwhile, the Chiefs listed quarterback Patrick Mahomes (knee), left tackle Eric Fisher (groin), defensive end Alex Okafor (ankle), cornerback Kendall Fuller (thumb) and defensive tackle Derrick Nnadi (elbow) as practicing fully for the second straight day.

The Chiefs also removed wide receiver Tyreek Hill (hamstring) and safety Jordan Lucas (shoulder) from the injury report, signaling both players are back to full strength.

In New England, the Patriots listed quarterback Tom Brady as limited with toe and right elbow injuries. Brady practiced fully Wednesday.
