Chiefs-Patriots prediction: Does New England keep it going against Kansas City?
Say this for Chiefs and Patriots: They’ve played some great games in the last few years.
In 2018, New England beat Kansas City twice, both times on the game’s final play. The Patriots kicked a field goal for a 43-40 triumph in Foxborough, then scored a touchdown in overtime to break Chiefs’ hearts in the AFC Championship Game at Arrowhead.
In the 2017 season opener, the Chiefs won 42-27. Any victory at Gillette Stadium is notable, but this one was particularly striking because Kansas City trailed 17-14 at halftime. The Patriots are 98-1 at Gillette at home when leading at halftime. That was the one.
Kickoff: 3:25 p.m. (Central), Gillette Stadium
TV/Radio: CBS (Ch. 5), KCFX (101.1 FM)
Line: Patriots by 3
Blair Kerkhoff’s prediction: Patriots 21-20
Fascinating game with playoff implications. The Patriots look to avoid losing to a division leader for the third time this season. The Chiefs seek a statement victory that would suggest they can do damage in the postseason. Patrick Mahomes will be playing for his first win against Tom Brady’s team. Andy Reid is 2-3 against the Patriots as the Chiefs’ coach. Unlike previous meetings, expect this one to be low-scoring. Like last year’s games, look for the Patriots to prevail.
