With Ravens’ emergence, Vegas oddsmakers sour on Chiefs’ odds to win AFC

The Patriots have lost their stranglehold as the betting favorite to win the AFC and represent the conference in the Super Bowl.

But not to the Chiefs.

For the first time this season, Baltimore has overtaken the Patriots as the AFC favorites in many of the Las Vegas sportsbooks. In other words, the long-anticipated AFC Championship Game matchup of Chiefs-Patriots is no longer quite as presumed.

The exact numbers on it: The Ravens are 3-to-2 to win the AFC title, according to the sportsbook BetOnline. The Patriots follow close behind at 8-to-5. The Chiefs are a relatively distant third at 5-to-1.

Currently sitting behind the top two teams in the conference standings, the Chiefs might have to march through both of them in order to advance to a Super Bowl. Which explains their taller odds.

That remains more than a month away. The immediate outlook is a bit different.

The Chiefs are favored by 10 points against the Oakland Raiders Sunday afternoon at Arrowhead Stadium. The battle for first place in the AFC West division holds the largest line of any NFL game this week.

Kansas City beat the Raiders 28-10 in Week 2. Both teams are 6-5 against the spread this season.

The over/under for Sunday’s matchup is 51 points. Seven of the Chiefs’ 11 games this season have reached the over.

The Vegas oddsmakers project a big day for the Chiefs’ passing game, including a bounce-back outing for quarterback Patrick Mahomes, who is coming off the lowest passing yardage output of his career.

Some individual player proposition over/under lines, courtesy of Bovada:

Patrick Mahomes passing yards: 325 1/2.

Tyreek Hill receiving yards: 95 1/2.

Travis Kelce receiving yards: 77 1/2.

Sammy Watkins receiving yards: 58 1/2.
