Chiefs safety Daniel Sorensen set to return to practice, will be eased back to action

Daniel Sorensen has returned to practice for the Chiefs, but his return to game action is not imminent.

First, Sorensen, who had been on injury reserve since the preseason because of a left tibia plateau fracture, isn’t eligible to play until after the eighth week. The Chiefs’ Week 8 game is Sunday against Denver.

Sorensen could play the following week at Cleveland, but that may not happen.

“He’s ready to return to practice and eligible to play next week, however we have three weeks to practice with him and decide what to do, whether to activate him to the roster or return him to injured reserve,” Chiefs trainer Rick Burkholder said. “This will be a trial period.

“We’re taking this period of time where he practices as a rehab session.”

Chiefs coach Andy Reid suggested that Sorensen would be eased into practice.

“I haven’t even thought of expectations at all,” Reid said. “He’s able to go out there and get acclimated again. It won’t be with the first group. That’s not what’s he doing. There will be some scout-team things to get him acclimated.”

Sorensen has four career interceptions, including one return for a touchdown. Last season, he was credited with 88 tackles and six tackles for loss.

Eric Berry also hasn’t played this season because of an injury, leaving the Chiefs with Ron Parker, Eric Murray and Jordan Lucas to play safety.
