Chiefs expected to sign guard Paul Fanaika
The Chiefs appear to be getting a little offensive line help sooner rather than later.
A source confirmed to The Star that the team is expected to sign free-agent guard Paul Fanaika, a six-year veteran, to a multiyear contract.
Fanaika, 28, is listed at 6-foot-5 and 327 pounds. He started 14 games last season for the Arizona Cardinals and has also spent time with the Cleveland Browns, Seattle Seahawks and Washington.
Fanaika was a seventh-round pick of the Philadelphia Eagles in 2009, back when current Chiefs coach Andy Reid was in charge there.
Fanaika has started 30 of 33 NFL games in his career. He posted a Pro Football Focus grade of negative-20.9 last season, which ranked 71st out of 78 qualifying guards.
