KC Chiefs release 11 players ahead of first deadline for roster cuts
With the first deadline for roster cuts looming on Tuesday, the Chiefs announced the release of 11 players on Monday.
Among them were receiver Weston Dressler, receiver Jerrell Jackson, safety Jerron McMillian, defensive tackle Jermelle Cudjo, receiver Darryl Surgent, cornerback Vernon Kearney, tight end Adam Schiltz, guard Otis Hudson, receiver Deon Anthony, defensive tackle Jairus Campbell and cornerback Brandon Jones.
The Chiefs also announced that safety Sanders Commings, who has a broken ankle, has been placed on injury reserve. This marks the second straight year Commings, the Chiefs’ fifth-round pick in 2013, will finish the year on IR.
None of the moves are a surprise. Every player except McMillian was primarily a third teamer throughout camp, and McMillian was surpassed on the depth chart by youngsters Malcolm Bronson and Daniel Sorensen.
The moves leave the Chiefs at 78 players, which means they still have three moves to make to get down to the 75-man roster limit by 3 p.m. Tuesday.
