Chiefs training camp report, Aug. 12: Offense has some kinks
The offense
The highlight was tight end Demetrius Harris’ leaping high for a TD pass from Tyler Bray and slam-dunking the ball over the goalpost. In a game, that would have been a penalty, Harris, a former college basketball player, wanted to entertain the fans. … The Chiefs worked on goal-line offense but the starters had some troubles getting the ball into the end zone. … The backups fared a little better as Harris beat safety Jerron McMillian on a fade from Chase Daniel, and Knile Davis bolted for a TD over the left side. … The receivers had a case of the drops during the 11-on-11 period coming out of their 10-yard line. … Rookie receiver Albert Wilson, perhaps hearing the footsteps of safety Husain Abdullah, dropped an easy pass; and a pass went through the hands of veteran Dwayne Bowe, who was covered by Chris Owens. Another pass went off the hands of A.J. Jenkins, and Abdullah intercepted. … Finally, Alex Smith hit tight end Chad Kelce for a 25-yard TD.
The defense
Abdullah had a good day’s work. In the goal-line session, he rushed up the middle for what would have been a sack of Smith. He also broke up Smith’s pass intended for Kyle Williams and intercepted the deflection off Jenkins’ hands. … Sean Smith reclaimed his starting spot at right corner for a period with Ron Parker shifting to left and Marcus Cooper getting a rest. … Outside linebacker Josh Martin showed up on consecutive plays, sniffing out a screen pass for Knile Davis and then stopping Davis in his tracks in the backfield on a running play. … Justin Rogers batted an Aaron Murray pass away from receiver Weston Dressler on the sidelines.

S Eric Berry (heel), DE Mike Catapano (virus), DE Mike DeVito (broken hand), K Ryan Succop (groin), DL Kona Schwenke (shoulder) and CB Damond Smith (adductor) did not practice. TE Richard Gordon was excused for personal reasons.
