Clutch kicks help Cairo Santos win AFC monthly award
Chiefs kicker Cairo Santos has collected his first monthly award. He was named AFC special teams player of the month for November.
Santos, a third-year pro, made all 11 field goal attempts in the month, including the first two walk-off kicks of his career.
His 37-yard field goal on the final play gave the Chiefs a 20-17 victory at Carolina on Nov. 13.
Last Sunday at Denver, Santos ended the game with a 34-yard field goal that banged off the left upright before caroming through. The kick occurred as the clock in overtime expired.
Earlier in overtime, Santos extended the game with 37-yard field goal.
Santos has made 13 straight field goals and has booted at least one in seven straight games. With 96 points, Santos is tied for the leading in scoring among AFC players.
Santos is the first Chiefs kicker to win the monthly award since Pete Stoyanovich for December 1997.
