The offensive line corner of the Chiefs locker room got a little more crowded this week.

Mike Person, a six-year veteran with experience at guard and center, was a 14-game starter for the Falcons last season. He was signed to the Chiefs active roster on Wednesday. He’s a backup candidate for both positions now that Zack Fulton, who also plays both positions, is likely to move into the starting lineup with the season-ending injury to left guard Parker Ehringer.

Person spent the 2011 season with the 49ers, with Alex Smith as a teammate. He played for the Colts, Seahawks and Rams before getting his most extensive playing time in Atlanta last season.

“There is some carry over from team to team but each team has their own little nuances that you have to learn and learn fast,” Person said.

New to the practice squad is Joe Cheek, a rookie tackle from Texas A&M who had been with the Texans’ practice squad.

Also, the Chiefs have re-signed Zach Sterup, according to his agent. Sterup, a rookie from Nebraska who signed with the Chiefs as a free agent in May, suspended for four games for violating the league’s policy on performance enhancing drugs and released.
