Reports: Michigan lands Jim Harbaugh as next football coach
Jim Harbaugh will be the next coach at the University Michigan, as according to multiple reports.
A news conference is scheduled for Tuesday.
Harbaugh made it clear on Sunday after the the San Francisco 49ers’ final game this season that he would not be returning as head coach of the 49ers. Harbaugh had been the head coach for the Niners since 2011 and led them to three NFC championship games. San Francisco did not make the playoffs this season.
Details on Harbaugh’s agreement with Michigan were not yet made available, but earlier reports had suggested Michigan was offering a six-year contract worth around $48 million.
Harbaugh will be replacing Brady Hoke, who was fired after a Nov. 29 loss to Ohio State.
Harbaugh played quarterback at Michigan from 1983 to 1986.
“It’s been the time of my life,” Harbaugh said Sunday of his years as head coach in San Francisco. “Been a lot of great memories, great moments. … It’s been a tremendous four years, it’s been a pleasure to work and serve for this organization. I feel great about what we accomplished.”
