Former K-State quarterback Jake Waters released by Seattle Seahawks

Jake Waters is once again looking for a NFL home.

The Seattle Seahawks released the former Kansas State quarterback on Wednesday just eight days after they signed him, opting to bring in wide receiver Deontay Greenberry before their next preseason game.

Waters young professional career illustrates how difficult it is to make it in the NFL. After setting a single-season passing record at K-State during his senior year, Waters has now been released by two NFL teams. He went undrafted, but quickly signed a free-agent deal with the Jacksonville Jaguars, only to be cut within days. He kept himself in shape throughout the summer, and caught Seattle’s eye with an in-person workout. When the Seahawks signed him, he reunited with former K-State teammate Tyler Lockett.

They were dynamite in college Wildcats fans rejoiced at the thought of seeing the Waters/Lockett connection in the NFL.

But it was not to be.

They spent time together on the sideline during a preseason game against the Kansas City Chiefs at Arrowhead Stadium and said positive words about each other after its conclussion, but their time together is already over.

The Seahawks added Waters after one of their other backup quarterbacks, Tarvaris Jackson, sustained an ankle injury, knocking him out of roughly two weeks of practice, so it seemed unlikely Waters would crack the opening day roster. Still, eight days seems awfully short. That’s life in the NFL.
