CFL’s Montreal Alouettes put Michael Sam on suspended list
Michael Sam’s professional football career has taken another twist.
The Montreal Alouettes of the Canadian Football League have placed Sam on the suspended list after the former Missouri star defensive end and openly gay player drafted by an NFL team unexpectedly left training camp last week.
According to the Montreal Gazette, the door is open for Sam’s return but it’s unlikely. The newspaper reported that Sam may have overreacted to a comment made to him by another player.
“All I know is I heard somebody made a comment about him, about how he wasn’t very good and wasn’t having a very good camp. He took it personally and was pouting in his room,” the source told the Gazette. “It’s very strange. I have no idea what’s going on. He might have a personal issue.”
The St. Louis Rams drafted Sam in the seventh round of the 2014 NFL Draft. He was cut by the Rams and spent a month on the Dallas Cowboys practice roster.
He signed with the CFL team in May.
