While the Steelers defense was torched and the offense scored six touchdowns, fans were not thrilled with Pittsburgh offensive coordinator Todd Haley in Sunday’s 45-42 loss to the Jaguars.

Those fans will be glad to know that on Wednesday, the Steelers parted ways with Haley.

“He is out of contract, so this is not a firing,” Ian Rapoport said on the NFL Network. “But the Steelers are allowing him to walk away, he will no longer be their offensive coordinator. Of course, (quarterback) Ben Roethlisberger has had so much success with Haley, unprecedented success, probably his best stretch of football in his career.

“But the relationship has been strained so much so that Ben decided to have Randy Fichtner, the quarterbacks coach, come down to the sideline to serve as a conduit for them to help their communication.”

Haley, 50, joined the Steelers in 2012 after he had been the Chiefs head coach.

Pittsburgh had the third-ranked offense in the NFL this past season and was third in passing as well. Roethlisberger threw for 4,251 yards with 28 touchdowns and 14 interceptions for the Steelers, who had a 13-3 record.
