Kyle Busch outran Joey Logano on Saturday in the Dover 200, making it the fifth straight year that a driver has swept both Nationwide races at the Monster Mile. Logano won both races in 2012 and 2013; Carl Edwards won both in 2011 and Busch did it in 2010.
Rookie Chase Elliott finished third and increased his lead in the Nationwide standings to 26 points over teammate Regan Smith, who finished seventh, heading into next Saturday’s Kansas Lottery 300 at Kansas Speedway.
Logano offered an explanation for the rash of sweeps on Dover’s 1-mile cement track.
“It’s one of those race tracks when you find what you want in your race car and you know how to work on it in practice to make sure you have it for the race, that shows when it comes game time,” Logano said.
“You go to certain tracks, and it’s always the same guys who run good, whether it’s a Cup car or Nationwide car. … They’re always fast. Dover is one of those race tracks, you either love it or hate it. I love this place. It suits my driving style.”
The win was Busch’s fifth in the Nationwide series this season, and his fifth career win at Dover, breaking a tie with Logano for the most all-time. Busch also has won a record 68 Nationwide races, the most in history.
