Kansas Speedway race has new sponsor with local ties and many flavors

The Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series night race at Kansas Speedway has a tasty new title sponsor with local roots.

The track announced Wednesday that the green flag at 7 p.m. Saturday, May 12 will start the KC Masterpiece 400.

“I’m excited to partner with KC Masterpiece this year and welcome their brand into the sport,” Kansas Speedway president Pat Warren said.

The barbecue sauce was founded in Kansas City. Rich Davis created Masterpiece Products Inc. in 1978 to manufacture sauces he created. He sold the company in 1986 to enter the restaurant business, and a handful of KC Masterpieces — in Missouri and Kansas —opened.

The final restaurant, in Overland Park, closed in 2009. Davis died in 2015.

The KC Masterpiece 400 will conclude a race weekend that starts with a NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race at 7:30 p.m. Friday, May 11. Tickets are available at KansasSpeedway.com.
