OK, some good news: Royals center fielder Lorenzo Cain will begin a rehab assignment at Class AAA Omaha on Tuesday, the club announced late Monday night.

The news came just minutes after a 6-2 loss to the Los Angeles Angels dropped the Royals to 48-50 on the season. Cain packed his belongings in a quiet clubhouse after the game, poised to depart for Omaha.

Cain, 30, is batting .290 with eight homers and 39 RBIs in 73 games. He has missed 22 games since straining his left hamstring in an 8-4 loss to the St. Louis Cardinals on June 28. Kansas City is 8-14 since Cain went on the disabled list on June 29.
