Ian Kennedy will get the first Royals start after All-Star break

The Royals’ rotation is tentatively set for after the All-Star break.

Ian Kennedy will start Friday’s game at Detroit, followed by Danny Duffy and Yordano Ventura. When the Royals return to Kauffman Stadium for a series with the AL Central leading Indians, Edinson Volquez will start the opener on July 18, “then the fifth starter,” Royals manager Ned Yost said.

That starter was Dillon Gee on Sunday against the Mariners in the final game before the break. He replaced Chris Young in that spot.

The All-Star break gives teams an opportunity to shuffle the rotation, but the Royals will keep the same order they’ve used before the break.

“We tried to keep it so we didn’t have guys going nine, 10 days without starting with the (All-Star) break,” Yost said.
