Royals’ Yordano Ventura ejected from game after instigating a brawl with Orioles
Yordano Ventura was ejected Tuesday night after sparking a brawl during the Royals’ game against the Baltimore Orioles here at Camden Yards.
In the bottom of the fifth inning, Ventura plunked Orioles shortstop Manny Machado in the ribs with a fastball.
Without hesitation, Machado dropped his bat and sprung toward the mound. Ventura removed his hat and dropped his glove as a melee broke out in the middle of the field. Machado appeared to landing a glancing blow before Ventura wrapped his legs up and took him to the ground.
Machado was also ejected for his part in the brawl.
It was Ventura’s third career ejection and came just one season after he was involved in numerous on-field incidents.
Major League Baseball levied a seven-game suspension against Ventura for sparking a benches-clearing brawl with the Chicago White Sox on April 23, 2015.
That fracas started when White Sox hitter Adam Eaton hit a comebacker to Ventura and the players jawed at each other as Eaton ran to first. The benches then emptied.
That came after Ventura was ejected for throwing a 99-mph fastball at Oakland third baseman Brett Lawrie the previous weekend. And earlier in the 2015 season, Ventura instigated a verbal spat for unknown reasons against Angels superstar Mike Trout, leading to players from both team s running onto the field.
