Dillon Gee and Danny Duffy will get second starts for the Royals later this week.

Both pitchers started the year in the bullpen and made their season-first starts in last weekend’s series against the Braves.

Gee pitched five scoreless innings Saturday before being charged with three runs in the sixth in what became a 5-0 loss.

Duffy started Sunday’s game, threw three shutout innings as his pitch count reached 50. The Royals won 4-2 in 13 innings.

Gee and Duffy are replacing Kris Medlen and Chris Young, both on the disabled list because of arm injuries.

In the weekend series at Chicago against the White Sox, Gee is scheduled to start Friday and Duffy on Sunday. Royals manager Ned Yost said Duffy will be on a 55-60 pitch count.
