Royals’ Mike Moustakas continues rehab from thumb injury
On late Sunday morning, Mike Moustakas headed to the indoor batting cage inside the bowels of Kauffman Stadium and hit baseballs into a net. It was just soft toss — or “flips”, as Moustakas called it.
It also was the first time he had done anything more than dry swings since going on the disabled list with a sesamoid fracture in his left thumb. The light workout represented the latest step in his rehab process.
“It’s going good,” Moustakas told The Star. “It feels good. The thumb feels good. I just got to get my strength back and hopefully start hitting today and see how it goes.”
Moustakas was placed on the disabled list on May 7, retroactive to May 5. He would be eligible to return on Friday, when the Royals open a three-game series against the Chicago White Sox at U.S. Cellular Field. Moustakas was hitting .258 with a club-high seven homers in 25 games before going on the disabled list.
