Infielder Cheslor Cuthbert reportedly being called up to the Royals
Infielder Cheslor Cuthbert could be close to receiving a promotion to the Royals’ 25-man roster, according to two reports from Nicaraguan news outlets.
Two publications in Nicaragua — El Nuevo Diario and La Prensa — reported on Friday that Cuthbert would join the Royals in Cleveland on Saturday for the final two games of a three-game series. Cuthbert is a native of Nicaragua.
Royals general manager Dayton Moore did not return a message from The Star late Friday night.
Cuthbert is batting .333 with seven homers and 28 RBIs in 24 games at Class AAA Omaha. In 2015, he made his major-league debut with the Royals, batting .217 with a .280 on-base percentage and four extra-base hits in 19 games.
Cuthbert has primarily played third base at Omaha this season. Royals third baseman Mike Moustakas is currently day to day because of a bruised left thumb. He sat out Friday’s 7-1 loss in Cleveland, missing his third start in four days.
