Royals’ Jarrod Dyson scores two runs in his first rehab game in Class AAA Omaha
Outfielder Jarrod Dyson reached base twice and scored two runs in his first rehab game at Class AAA Omaha, an 11-8 victory over New Orleans. Dyson, who is recovering from a strained oblique, drew a walk and added a single and a strikeout. He exited the game after three innings, the planned allotment for his first day back.
Royals manager Ned Yost said Dyson was expected to play three-to-five innings on Sunday before having an off-day on Monday. He’ll then play Tuesday and Wednesday before having another day off on Thursday. The plan, Yost said, calls for Dyson to work his way up to nine innings by next weekend.
Medlen has history with Augusta National
Royals right-hander Kris Medlen owns an offseason home in Augusta, Ga., and the location comes with some natural perks. As the Masters tournament concludes this weekend at Augusta National Golf Club, Medlen recalled the time he used a family friend of a friend — of a friend — to stumble into a tee time at the famed course.
“My first drive on the first hole … I hit that in the parking lot,” Medlen said. “My knees were chattering.”
Medlen said he settled down to shoot a 92. (“No short game,” he said). The score included a par at the par-3 12th hole at Amen Corner.
“I had a birdie putt on it,” Medlen said. “I had about a 10- or 15-footer for birdie. That was the coolest, most complete hole that I played. Otherwise, I was just kind of all over the place because I was so nervous.”
