Alex Gordon, Salvador Perez set to headline Royals FanFest this weekend

After signing a four-year, $72 million contract in early January, Alex Gordon is slated to return to his usual spot in left field for the defending World Series champion Royals. He is also scheduled to headline a collection of players returning to town this weekend for the club’s annual Royals FanFest at the Kansas City Convention Center at Bartle Hall.

The two-day event, which begins at noon Friday for season-ticket holders and 2 p.m. for all fans, will also feature appearances from World Series MVP Salvador Perez, closer Wade Davis, third baseman Mike Moustakas, left-handed pitcher Danny Duffy, right-handed starter Edinson Volquez, shortstop Alcides Escobar and reliever Joakim Soria, who returns to the organization after signing a three-year $25 million deal earlier this offseason.

Club officials said other Royals players could be added to the list later this week. On Friday, the schedule will run from noon to 9 p.m. On Saturday, the doors open at 9 a.m. for season-ticket holders and 11 a.m. for the general public, with festivities running until 7 p.m.

Two-day passes are sold out, but single-day tickets, which include timed entry, are available. Adult tickets are $15 in advance and $17 at the event. Tickets for children ages 6-17 are $9 in advance and $11 at the event, and children under age 5 are admitted free.

Players will be available for autograph sessions, but the schedule is fluid. According to the Royals, autographs will be on a first-come, first-served basis to the first 150 fans at each session. No photographs with players will be allowed during the autograph sessions.

Royals general manager Dayton Moore and manager Ned Yost will also be in attendance, in addition to broadcasters Ryan Lefebvre, Denny Matthews and Rex Hudler. The full list of current players scheduled to be there also includes catchers Drew Butera and Tony Cruz, infielder Christian Colon, outfielder Terrance Gore and relievers Kelvin Herrera and Louis Coleman.

Former players schedule to attend include Willie Aikens, Dennis Leonard, John Mayberry and Brian McRae, among others.
