Royals add former Yankees starter Chien-Ming Wang on minor-league contract
The Royals signed former Yankees stalwart Chien-Ming Wang to a minor-league contract Thursday, the team announced. Wang, 35, has not pitched in the majors since 2013, when he made an abbreviated stint with the Blue Jays.
Wang, a Taiwanese sinkerballer, won 19 games for the Yankees in both 2006 and 2007. But he experienced a bevy of injuries, including major shoulder surgery, and has not been a reliable major-league contributor since 2007.
Wang spent time in 2015 with the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs of the non-affiliated Atlantic League. He posted a 6.68 ERA in 11 outings with Atlanta’s Class AAA affiliate and a 5.69 ERA in 11 outings with Seattle’s Class AAA club.
