Royals hire former infielder Chris Getz as front-office assistant

Former Royals second baseman Chris Getz has rejoined the club as a front-office assistant, the team announced Wednesday.

Getz, who played four seasons with the Royals from 2010-13 before joining Toronto in free agency, will assist in player personnel and development as a baseball operations assistant, according to a release from the Royals.

He originally joined the Royals before the 2010 season in a trade for Mark Teahen. Getz, 31, played 10 games with the Blue Jays last season before retiring as a player.
