The Royals’ season series with the Astros got off to a rough start. Joe Blanton started the opener in Houston and surrendered five runs in 2 2/3 innings as the Royals fell 6-1. The Astros went on to become the second team to sweep the Royals during the season.

Kansas City won two of three in the rematch, highlighted by a July 26 triumph when Yordano Ventura outdueled Dallas Keuchel in a 5-1 victory.
