Facebook's baseball fans map turns Cardinals country Royal blue

Oops. Doesn’t Facebook know that Cardinals fans would rather eat dirt than wear Royals blue?

Apparently not.

For opening day, Facebook took a look at which of the 30 MLB teams are most popular on a county-by-county basis according to Facebook likes on team pages.

No surprise: Kansans root for the Kansas City Royals and most of Missouri roots for the St. Louis Cardinals.

Huge surprise: On the color-coded map, Missouri is shaded Royals blue.

(Insert maniacal laugh by Royals fan who made the map. Just guessing.)

Big shame: The New York Mets, Oakland Athletics and Toronto Blue Jays didn’t score a majority of Facebook fans in any county.

Big whoop: The New York Yankees have lots of fans outside of New York, even down South in Confederate country and, oddly, a few outlier counties in Kansas.

Traitors.
