Kansas City Royals have new date for 2026 opening day game vs. Atlanta Braves
The Kansas City Royals will have a delayed start to the 2026 regular season. On Monday, the Atlanta Braves announced a slight change to their home schedule.
The Braves moved their opening day home game against the Royals to Friday, March 27, at Truist Park. It will create a natural three-day home series with following games slated for March 28 and March 29.
Both teams were initially set to begin the 2026 campaign on March 26. Now, the clubs will have an additional day between the end of spring training and the start of the regular season.
The Braves announced that first pitch is slated for 6:15 p.m. Central. The game will be followed by a postgame fireworks show. Fans interested in attending the game will be able to purchase tickets beginning Jan. 15.
The Royals will begin on the road for the first time since the 2020 campaign. After the three-game set, the Royals will return home to face the Minnesota Twins at Kauffman Stadium on March 30.
KC enters 2026 looking to return to the postseason. The club finished 82-80 and just outside a Wild Card berth last season.
This offseason, the Royals have improved their roster by adding outfielder Isaac Collins and reliever Nick Mears from the Milwaukee Brewers. Additionally, the Royals are set to sign outfielder Lane Thomas and also extended third baseman Maikel Garcia long term.
