City donates $35,000 to youth outreach program based on sales of ‘Royals Avenue’ street signs

The City of Kansas City presented a $35,000 donation to the Reviving Baseball in Inner Cities program at its season-ending celebration Saturday.

The donation was created with proceeds from the city’s sale of “Royals Avenue” street signs during the team’s run to the World Series last October.

“Last fall, the Royals showed us the importance of hard work and team work,” Chris Hernandez, the city’s communications director, said in a release announcing the donation. “We are proud to support Reviving Baseball in Inner Cities, which works each year to show our youth what these skills mean in the game of baseball — and in the real world.”

More than 800 boys and girls ages 5-18 participate in baseball and softball through the Kansas City RBI youth outreach program.
