Royals pass 2 million in season attendance
With 36,926 fans in the building on Friday evening, the season attendance at Kauffman Stadium surpassed 2 million at the fastest pace in franchise history. The Royals are projected to surpass the stadium record of 2,294,113 set in 1989.
The total reached 2,007,638 on Friday night. Those in attendance cheered in the seventh inning when the announcement flashed across the stadium scoreboard.
The team had not cracked the two-million fan mark since 1991. That year, the team set the previous record for fastest pace past 2 million, doing so in 63 dates. The new mark reached in 2015 occurred in 60 home dates.
