The date hasn’t been announced, but Royals outfielder Alex Gordon said he will begin his rehab assignment soon.

“The rehab assignment is going to come up shortly,” Gordon said. “I can’t tell you exactly when, but we’ve been talking about it. No dates have been finalized.”

Gordon has been on the disabled list since July 9 because of a groin strain. He’s been working his way back into pregame workouts in the last couple of weeks, throwing, taking regular batting practice and shagging fly balls.

Gordon said rushing back wouldn’t serve him or the Royals.

“I trust our trainers, and the one thing I don’t want to do is hurt it again and be out in September and October,” Gordons said.
