KC Royals right-hander Alec Marsh suffers setback in his recovery from injury
Right-hander Alec Marsh’s road back to the Royals has taken an unfortunate turn.
Manager Matt Quatraro said Saturday that Marsh was shut down from throwing about a week ago.
Marsh, who made 25 starts last season with a 4.53 ERA, is dealing with right-shoulder impingement that happened during his offseason throwing program.
The Cleveland Clinic noted shoulder impingement “happens when bones in your shoulder rub against or pinch your rotator cuff. It happens when swelling in your shoulder makes your rotator cuff too big to fit comfortably between your bones.”
Quatraro said Marsh will be reevaluated by the Royals medical staff on July 9. Marsh, 27, has not appeared in a game in the majors or minors this season, but he had been throwing off the mound, although he had not faced batters yet.
Quatraro also said right-hander Kyle Wright pulled himself from a start Friday night at Triple-A Omaha after feeling something with his oblique on the left side while warming up. Wright, who missed the 2024 season after right-shoulder surgery, will have an MRI in Kansas City on Monday.
Wright has made eight starts in the minor leagues this season and has a 5.48 ERA.
