Royals promotions this week: Negro Leagues salute, pickleball giveaway
The Royals’ annual Salute to the Negro Leagues will come this week against a franchise that changed baseball forever.
The Dodgers signed Jackie Robinson, who had played for the Kansas City Monarchs, and he made his big-league debut in 1947, breaking the color barrier as the first Black player in the majors.
So it’s fitting that the Royals’ Salute to the Negro Leagues event will be Sunday, when the team plays host to the Dodgers.
This is from the Royals’ website: “Both teams will wear custom caps: the Royals will sport a 1945 KC Monarchs road hat, and the Dodgers will wear Brooklyn Dodgers hats, both in the spirit of Jackie Robinson. The 2025 season marks the 80th anniversary of Jackie Robinson’s only season with the Monarchs before debuting for the Brooklyn Dodgers two years later.”
Those caps will be auctioned to fans and net proceeds will go to the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum. Also, the first 15,000 fans at Sunday’s game will receive a special Monarchs pin.
Here are the other giveaways and promotions planned for the Royals’ homestand this week:
