What Matt Quatraro said after KC Royals’ 6-5 victory vs. Padres on Friday night
The Kansas City Royals won their fourth consecutive game on the road Friday night. In doing so, the Royals returned to .500 with their 38th win of the season.
Jonathan India led the way with three RBIs. Salvador Perez hit the go-ahead RBI single to put the Royals ahead in the eighth inning.
The Royals have scored 22 runs on the six-game road trip (four games completed so far). The offense has hit nine home runs in the last four games.
Royals manager Matt Quatraro met with media members in San Diego after the club’s 6-5 victory over the Padres.
Here are some highlights from his postgame interview:
On Royals starter Michael Lorenzen...
“He did a good job and he was mixing,” Quatraro said. “Pretty unpredictable and a good breaking ball as he executed pitches when he had to, especially that pitch to (Manny) Machado to get out of the fifth inning. Overall, he gave us a shot to win here against a tough lineup.”
On recent power surge...
“The three-run homer is big,” Quatraro said, speaking on India’s three-run blast. “We talked about that it’s been a long time for us. Two of them in this road trip have been big. It’s nice for us to be able to do it the other way too. (We also scored) two runs without a home run off of (Jason) Adam, which is tough because his numbers are outstanding.”
On facing Padres starter Nick Pivetta...
“He’s tough and we had to lay off the high fastball,” Quatraro said. “I thought we did a pretty good job of that overall. There were a few that he got that we chased. We laid off him and we were able to do some damage.”
