There is a new name atop the Kansas City Royals’ leaderboard.

On Tuesday, Royals catcher Salvador Perez surpassed Hall of Fame third baseman George Brett for the most multi-home run games in franchise history. Perez blasted two home runs against the Texas Rangers to take sole possession of the spot.

Perez hit his seventh and eighth homers against Rangers starter Jack Leiter. It was the 18th time he has recorded multiple home runs in a game. He was initially tied with Brett, who had the previous record with 17 multi-homer games.

“When you pass a Hall of Famer, now your name is going to be next to his,” Perez said. “It’s super exciting for me.”

The Royals entered play with just 46 total home runs. Perez has regained his power swing in recent games. He has six homers and 17 RBIs in his last 22 games.

Prior to May 21, he was mired in a month-long homerless drought.

“I continue to do my routine and I continue to prepare myself,” Perez said. “You know, every single day I can control what I can control. When I step to that field, I’m going to hit and try to give everything I have to try to win the game.”

Perez now has 281 career homers. He now trails Brian McCann (282) for eighth place among primary catchers on the career home run list.

The Royals needed his production on Tuesday. He joined forces with Bobby Witt Jr. to help propel the Royals to a 6-1 victory over the Rangers at Globe Life Field.

Perez collected a season-high four RBIs in the win. He has hit safely in 11 of 14 games in June and currently owns a .316 batting average during the stretch.

“Today was a great day for Salvy and let’s hope we carry that over (into) tomorrow,” Royals manager Matt Quatraro said. “That was a franchise record for multi-home run games, so let’s enjoy today.”
