Royals ace Cole Ragans will return soon. Here is the latest regarding his groin injury
The Kansas City Royals’ starting rotation is nearing full strength.
Royals ace Cole Ragans is set to make a rehab start on Saturday. Ragans, who has dealt with a left groin strain, will join Double-A Northwest Arkansas and is expected to throw around three to four innings.
“He’s also continued to throw the whole time so his arm is in a good spot,” Royals manager Matt Quatraro said. “Just hoping he stresses the leg enough to make sure that he is good. He really has been getting on it in the bullpen. Don’t really anticipate anything. He just needs to get back out there on the mound.”
Ragans is eligible to return from the 15-day injured list on June 1. The Royals have filled the void with rookie sensation Noah Cameron. In four starts, Cameron has a 1.05 ERA and 16 strikeouts.
On Friday, Royals star Seth Lugo returns to the mound. He will start against the Detroit Tigers at Kauffman Stadium. He missed his last two starts due to right middle finger inflammation.
Lugo isn’t expected to face any restrictions. He was reinstated from the 15-day injured list and should see his usual amount of work. In a corresponding move, the Royals placed top reliever Lucas Erceg on the injured list with low back spasms.
“He kept throwing, stressing his arm and getting off the mound,” Quatraro said of Lugo. “Just long toss and all that kind of stuff, so he felt pretty good about it.”
