Jac Caglianone keeps raking with Triple-A Omaha. His latest HR traveled 459 feet
Kansas City Royals manager Matt Quatraro advises the organization’s minor-leaguers to “kick the door down” and earn their opportunity in the majors.
Well, top prospect Jac Caglianone is no longer kicking the door of Major League Baseball. He isn’t knocking either, but rather attacking it with tremendous force.
On Sunday, Caglianone hit his fourth Triple-A home run — in consecutive games, no less.
He gave the Omaha Storm Chasers a 1-0 lead over the Salt Lake Bees with a blast that traveled 459 feet. It left The Ballpark at America First Square in South Jordan, Utah at warp speed.
The Royals promoted Caglianone to Triple-A Omaha a week ago — Sunday, May 18. His first week at the Class AAA level has reminded fans of his immense power and given them a glimpse of the future.
Caglianone is arguably the most-hyped Royals prospect in decades. He generates social media attention with each Herculean performance at the plate. Fans clamor for him to be called up to KC in hopes that he might turn around the Royals’ anemic offense.
Club officials have remained patient, saying they don’t believe Caglianone is ready to face the rigors of big-league pitching on a daily basis.
“Jac will come to the major leagues whenever he is ready to contribute to the major leagues,” Royals general manager J.J. Picollo said last week.
The Royals’ front office evaluators know Caglianone can hit baseballs a long way, but there are finer points that he still needs to learn — for example, the intracacies of playing an outfield position and making regular in-game adjustments.
So far, Caglianone has proved he can’t be beat with mistake pitches. The next step will be to consistently dominate. He did that in Double-A with the Northwest Arkansas Naturals in merely 38 games.
How long will it take him to overpower Triple-A pitching? He certainly doesn’t seem fazed by the higher level of competition. And that bodes well for the Royals and a potential call-up this summer.
