How fast was Bobby Witt Jr.’s triple? He had one of MLB’s quickest times in 2025

Kansas City Royals star Bobby Witt Jr. is no stranger to special moments.

On Monday, Witt was on cycle watch as he singled and tripled in his first two at-bats against Houston Astros starter Ryan Gusto. Witt showed all five tools in his arsenal, but it was his speed that drew the most attention.

In the second inning, Witt ripped a line drive over Astros right-fielder Cam Smith’s head. The ball rustled around the outfield wall.

And Witt was off to the races.

Witt sprinted around the bases in 11.07 seconds. It was the third-fastest home-to-third time in the majors this season behind Arizona Diamondbacks star Corbin Carroll.

Carroll holds times of 10.87 and 11.02 seconds in 2025. Witt collected an RBI as teammate Jonathan India scored from first base.

“Out of the box, on a single I’m thinking double and on a double I’m thinking three,” Witt said. “So really just trying to get that extra 90 (feet) and just kind of go from there.”

It was another highlight in his portfolio.

In 2023, Witt hit an inside-the-park home run against the Seattle Mariners at Kauffman Stadium. By comparison, Witt circled the bases in 14.3 seconds to register the fastest inside-the-park homer since August 2017.

“I can’t see him, but I definitely know he’s on my tail, you know, because he is so fast,” India said. “I definitely knew he was going to get to third there. And yeah, great swing too.”

Witt was a catalyst early in the Royals victory. He added a single in the first inning as the Royals earned a 7-5 win in the series opener.

“That’s a special player, man,” Royals second baseman Michael Massey said. “You know, obviously sometimes we take it for granted while watching it. That’s just amazing. He is a great player, great teammate and we’re lucky to have him.”
