Live stats & score updates from Kansas City Royals vs. Guardians on Saturday
The Kansas City Royals gave one away to open the season. They had a prime opportunity to tie the score — or take the lead — in the eighth, before running themselves into a bizarre double play.
They rallied to tie it in the ninth, but Cleveland earned the win in extras.
OK. Reset. On to Game 2.
The Royals say they aren’t overreacting to Game 1 of 162, and they’ll have the chance to show that those missteps were more fluke than feature when they return to the field at 3:10 p.m. Saturday.

KC Royals lineup vs. Guardians
Vinnie Pasquantino was cleared for an opening day start (and played well), and he remains in the lineup, albeit at DH. That means another start for newcomer Cavan Biggio at first as the Royals take the field.
Jonathan India will remain in the leadoff spot, followed by Bobby Witt Jr., Pasquantino and Salvador Perez. Michael Massey will start at second and hit fifth. MJ Melendez, Maikel Garcia, Biggio and Kyle Isbel round out the batting order.
Here are key names to know from the roster.

- The Royals face a difficult stretch to begin the season, and that goes well beyond facing the Guardians to open 2025.
