Roger Clemens to headline College Baseball Hall of Fame class honored in Overland Park

Before they were major league standouts, players like Roger Clemens, Mark Teixeira and former Royals infielder Jeff King were college stars, and they’ll be honored in Overland Park on Thursday as members of the 2024 National College Baseball Hall of Fame class.

They’re part of a class that includes seven players, three coaches and an umpire who contributed to baseball at the NCAA, NAIA and junior college levels. The Night of Champions ceremony will take place at the Overland Park Marriott.

Also in the class, baseball Hall of Famer Mike Schmidt, who was a shortstop at Ohio University.

Clemens pitched at Texas and was the program’s first player to have his jersey retired. Teixeira was a national college player of the year at Georgia Tech. King was a three-time All-American at Arkansas and top overall draft pick in 1987.

Some of the top individual performers from last season will also be part of the program, including Florida’s Jac Caglianone, the Royals’ top draft pick at No. 6 overall last year. He won the John Olerud two-way player of the year award as a pitcher and first baseman.

The College Baseball Hall of Fame was established in 2004, and the Museum at Prairiefire in Overland Park will become its first permanent home in 2026.
