Royals Hall of Fame voting opens. Yordano Ventura, Alex Gordon (& more) are eligible
A few beloved Kansas City Royals are up for the team’s Hall of Fame consideration. On Monday, the club announced the 2025 nominees for enshrinement. The group includes several members of the 2015 World Series team.
Wade Davis, Alex Gordon and Yordano Ventura headline the club nominees. They contributed to the Royals’ World Series runs in 2014 and 2015. They are joined on the ballot by former teammates Billy Butler, Jarrod Dyson, Joakim Soria and Kelvin Herrera.
The Royals also listed Carlos Beltran and Johnny Damon on the ballot. They held instrumental roles during the early 2000s. Beltran was named the 1999 Rookie of the Year after hitting .293 with 22 home runs and 108 RBIs.
Fans can vote for their favorite Royals Hall of Fame finalists. The voting period opened on Monday and will run through Dec. 23.
The Royals Hall of Fame voting process consists of two phases.
In 2025, the regular phase will be conducted. The Royals will consider club alumni for enshrinement if they were active for at least three seasons. The alumni must also have contributed a minimum of 1,500 plate appearances or 300 innings pitched or managed an equivalent of three seasons.
The Royals will consider the fan ballot in the final tally. The online balloting will account for three full votes for each of the top-five finalists.
Other official votes will come from all living members of the Royals Hall of Fame, members of the Royals Hall of Fame executive board, select members of the KC chapter of the Baseball Writers Association of America (BBWAA), KC media representatives and current Royals front office staff with 15 or more years of service.
Any nominee with at least 75% of the vote will be enshrined in the Royals Hall of Fame. The club is set to schedule the induction ceremony for the 2025 season.
To remain eligible for the regular phase, a club alumni must attain at least 10% of the vote.
The Royals inducted Bo Jackson, John Schuerholz and Cedric Tallis into the Hall of Fame in 2024. There are currently 30 members in the exclusive club.
The other Hall of Fame phase involves a veterans committee. This includes voting for non-field personnel or alumni no longer considered for the regular phase. The veterans committee will vote in every even-numbered year.
The Royals Hall of Fame was created in 1986. The first inductees were Amos Otis and Steve Busby.
