KC Royals’ I-70 series opener at Cardinals postponed because of inclement weather
The Kansas City Royals will have to wait another day to renew their rivalry with the St. Louis Cardinals.
Heavy rains postponed Tuesday’s series opener. The I-70 rivals will now play a split doubleheader on Wednesday.
Game 1 is scheduled for 12:45 p.m. Central Time at Busch Stadium; Game 2 is set for 6:45 p.m.
The Royals are expected to start right-handed pitchers Alec Marsh and Michael Wacha in the doubleheader.
Marsh will face the Cardinals for the first time in his career. He is 6-6 with a 4.57 ERA in 16 starts this season and will pitch Game 1 of the doubleheader.
Wacha, meanwhile, is set to pitch against his former team. He posted a 3.91 ERA in seven seasons with the Cardinals and is slated to start Wednesday’s Game 2 for the Royals.
Fans with tickets to Tuesday’s game can redeem them for Game 1 of the Wednesday doubleheader. Paid ticket-holders will also get a voucher for any future regular-season game (Monday-Thursday), per the Cardinals.
The Cardinals lead the all-time I-70 series 75 wins to 49 for the Royals. The teams split their head-to-head matchup last season.
The Royals won 7-0 at Busch Stadium last season. It was nearly a historical moment as KC came close to a combined perfect game.
