Kansas City Royals game vs. Detroit Tigers postponed. Here’s when they’ll make it up

The Kansas City Royals will need more time to complete Wednesday’s game against the Detroit Tigers.

Rain showers suspended play in the fifth inning. The Tigers held a 4-0 lead before the game entered a rain delay.

An hour later, MLB officials decided to halt the night’s action. Wednesday’s suspended game will resume in the top of the fifth inning at 12:10 p.m. CT on Thursday.

Thursday’s originally scheduled game will begin approximately 30 minutes after the completion of the suspended matchup.

The Royals reliever Steven Cruz will pitch at the resumption of the suspended game. Royals pitcher Cole Ragans is slated to start the second game.

Here is what happened on Wednesday before play was halted.

The Tigers scored early against Royals rookie Jonathan Bowlan, who was making his MLB debut. In the second inning, Bowlan surrendered a solo home run to Tigers star Miguel Cabrera.

“I tried to take it one pitch at a time, execute pitches and do the best I could do,” Bowlan said.

Cabrera recorded his 511th career home run as he drilled a 93.1 mph fastball over the right-field wall.

Later, the Tigers added three more runs. Pinch hitter Tyler Nevin blasted a three-run homer to extend the lead in the fourth inning.

Bowlan pitched two innings before giving way to Royals reliever Angel Zerpa. He allowed three runs in his relief appearance.

“It was kind of what we expected,” Royals manager Matt Quatraro said. “He threw strikes, a good four-seamer, and he threw a couple of good breaking balls there. It was exciting to see him get the two strikeouts in the first. One home run, but overall it was very positive.”

The Royals recorded two hits in the game. Royals captain Salvador Perez and outfielder Edward Olivares were the lone players to reach base. The Royals struck out eight times against Tigers starter Tarik Skubal.

KC will bat in the fifth inning when play resumes on Thursday.
