Kansas City Royals acquire pitcher from Angels. Here’s what he brings to the roster

The Kansas City Royals made a minor move just ahead of Tuesday afternoon’s major-league trade deadline, acquiring left-handed pitcher Tucker Davidson from the Los Angeles Angels in exchange for cash considerations.

Davidson, 27, was designated for assignment Thursday. He will join the Royals and provide additional depth for the KC pitching staff.

This season, Davidson owns a 6.54 ERA in 18 appearances. He has 31 strikeouts with 25 runs allowed across 31 2/3 innings, all with the Angels.

Davidson has pitched in high-level games throughout his MLB career. He started Game 5 of the 2021 World Series with the Atlanta Braves, working two innings against the Houston Astros. He allowed four runs (two earned) and walked three batters in that start.

Davidson brings versatility to the Royals’ pitching staff. He has made 16 career starts but has worked primarily as a reliever this season.

The Royals have now made three trades ahead of the deadline, which was set to arrive at 5 p.m. Central on Tuesday. KC traded infielder Nicky Lopez to the Braves Sunday and sent reliever Jose Cuas to the Chicago Cubs.

Davidson is the latest player to join the Kansas City organization. He will report to the big-league club, bringing the Royals’ Major League Reserve List (commonly known as the 40-man roster) to 40 players.
