Kansas City Royals move regular-season game due to Chiefs 2023 home opener
The Kansas City Royals will now be in action on Labor Day. The Royals had a previously scheduled off day set for Sept. 7 ahead of a three-game series against the Chicago White Sox.
However, the impending NFL schedule release has changed those plans.
On Sept. 7, the Chiefs will play in the NFL kickoff game against the Detroit Lions at GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium. The Royals share a complex with the Kansas City Chiefs, the defending Super Bowl champs, and thus the Royals game has been moved to Monday, Sept. 4.
In recent years, the defending Super Bowl champion has drawn a home game during Thursday’s prime-time season opener.
As a result, the Royals announced the schedule change. The Royals will begin the three-game series at Kauffman Stadium at 1:10 p.m. Central on Labor Day.
The series will now conclude Sept. 6 as the off day was shifted to the following Thursday. This allows for the Chiefs to host their Week 1 game and avoid any issues regarding fans getting in and around Arrowhead.
Fans with original tickets to the Sept. 7 game will be able to attend the Labor Day matchup. The tickets will be honored and do not need to be exchanged. Fans who would like to exchange tickets for another game can do so prior to first pitch of the Labor Day game.
