The Royals will play their usual 162 games in the 2023 season, but this slate of matchups doesn’t look like anything fans have seen before.

For the first time in Major League Baseball history, the Royals will face all 15 National League opponents during the same season. MLB is ditching the divisional rotation that saw the Royals play every team from one division and the Cardinals in a home-and-away series each season.

Instead of playing 19 games against each divisional opponent, there will be 13 games in 2023. Here’s a breakdown from the Royals.

  • 52 games vs. AL Central teams (13 games vs. each team; seven home games/six road games vs. White Sox and Tigers; six home games/seven road games vs. Guardians and Twins)

  • 64 league games vs. AL East and West teams (seven against the Rays, Blue Jays, Red Sox and Mariners, and six against the Yankees, Astros, A’s, Orioles, Rangers and Angels)
  • 46 interleague games (four games against the Cardinals and three against the other NL teams)

Eight National League teams will be coming to Kauffman Stadium: Atlanta (April 14-16), Washington (May 26-28), Colorado (June 2-4), Cincinnati (June 12-14), Los Angeles (June 30-July 2), New York (Aug. 1-3), St. Louis (Aug. 11-12) and Pittsburgh (Aug. 28-30).

The Royals will also make eight trips to National League ballparks: San Francisco (April 7-9), Arizona (April 24-26), Milwaukee (May 12-14), San Diego (May 15-17), St. Louis (May 29-30), Miami (June 5-7), Philadelphia (Aug. 4-6) and Chicago (Aug. 18-20).

Opening Day for the Royals is scheduled for March 30 at Kauffman Stadium against the Minnesota Twins. The Royals will also end the regular season at home with a three-game series against the New York Yankees on Sept. 29-Oct. 1.

The Royals will play Atlanta at Kauffman Stadium on Jackie Robinson Day, April 15. On Lou Gehrig Day (June 2), the Royals will play host to the Rockies. The Royals also will be at Kauffman Stadium on Roberto Clemente Day (Sept. 15), when they’ll face the Astros.

One other scheduling quirk: The Royals have a rare scheduled off-day on a Sunday next season — Aug. 12.

Here is the Royals’ 2023 schedule. Game times will be released at a later date.
