Royals’ Salvador Perez, Daniel Lynch sharp in rehab appearances with Triple-A Omaha
Kansas City Royals catcher Salvador Perez and left-handed starting pitcher Daniel Lynch each played for the Triple-A Omaha Storm Chasers as they began minor-league rehab assignments on Tuesday night on the road in Syracuse, N.Y.
Lynch, currently on the injured list with a blister on his left hand, had been slated to start his rehab assignment on Monday night, but the Storm Chasers got rained out.
Lynch started for the Storm Chasers against the Syracuse Mets, the Triple-A affiliate of the New York Mets. He allowed one run on two hits, and he struck out six without walking a batter in four innings. He threw 54 pitches (36 for strikes).
Lynch faced a Mets lineup that included Khalil Lee, the former Royals prospect who was part of the trade that brought Andrew Benintendi to Kansas City.
Perez, who is on the IL after he had surgery to repair the ulnar collateral ligament in his left thumb, did not play the field. He served as the designated hitter for his first game with the Storm Chasers.
Perez hasn’t played since re-aggravating a prior thumb injury against the LA Angels on June 21, though he progressed to the point where he took part in catching drills, caught bullpen sessions and took batting practice on the field at Kauffman Stadium before being sent out on assignment.
In his first game action since the surgery, Perez went 3 for 4 with a double and a run scored.
New York Mets ace and two-time Cy Young Award winner Jacob deGrom is slated to pitch for Syracuse against the Storm Chasers on Wednesday afternoon as part of his minor-league rehab assignment.
